Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search box is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Edgecombe County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to review and respond to it. We keep that correspondence within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers automatically receive basic technical information when a page loads, which may include:
- Page-view dates and times
- Device category and operating system
- Browser name and version
- IP address associated with the device
- Visited pages and approximate time spent
- A referring site, when one is available
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure general usage, including popular pages and points where visits end. Analytics providers combine traffic information for that purpose. Browser controls can refuse or remove cookies, although disabling them may change how some functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing faults and correcting technical problems
- Delivering search requests to the selected outside provider
- Maintaining site reliability and page speed
- Measuring which resources are useful or need revision
- Displaying advertising that may reflect general interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Edgecombe County Criminal History does not build, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official access routes through the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Records Division, Clerk of Superior Court, NCSBI, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Government access is governed in part by the North Carolina Public Records Law, including G.S. 132-1.4 for law-enforcement information. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA, and visitor information is not assembled into reports about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the search tools. Information submitted through a tool is handled under that company's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Read those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Edgecombe County offices, North Carolina court or agency pages, legal resources, and outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's policy governs. Review it before providing personal details.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their technology and policies control that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks serving material on the pages
- Search providers processing a query the user submits
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, customary safeguards are used for data under our control. No online system can guarantee perfect protection, however, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access or another security event will never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from a person under 18. If such information is identified, it will be reviewed and removed as appropriate.
Your Data Rights
Rights vary with the law that applies to the user and the information. North Carolina's Chapter 132 controls access to government records, while G.S. 132-1.4 limits broad access to criminal investigative material. Those laws do not turn this private resource into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, a user may:
- Object to certain forms of processing
- Request deletion when the law provides it
- Seek correction of inaccurate personal information
- Ask for access to personal information held about the requester
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A replacement becomes available on this page with an updated effective date. Users should review it periodically.
